AirTran makes MKE crew base
AirTran Airways has been growing steadily at Milwaukee since its failed attempt to acquire Midwest Airlines nearly two years ago. As a result, they have decided to officially declare Milwaukee a hub and are adding more than 100 new jobs to the area including 50 Boeing 737 pilot positions and 50 Boeing 717 and 737 flight attendant positions. Most of these new jobs are existing within AirTran currently and will be relocated to the Milwaukee area.
This is unfortunate news for the few Midwest Airlines pilots that still remain and are now only flying regional jets with no mainline aircraft. If they would have supported the AirTran acquisition attempt they would now be flying high on new Boeing aircraft out of a hub of a growing and profitable low-cost airline.
As of April 2010, AirTran will have more than 300 local employees in the Milwaukee area supporting their growing roster of flights and destinations.
