Southwest continues assault against Frontier in Denver

Southwest Airlines has announced yet another expansion of flights in Denver in their continued assault against Frontier.  Southwest bid to take-over and eliminate Frontier as a competitor earlier this summer, but failed in the attempt.  This expansion is evidence of Southwest’s being upset at the result of that failed attempt.

Midwest to get 10 US Airways Embraer 190

Republic Airways, in an effort to retire the Boeing 717’s currently operated by their newly acquired Midwest Airlines, will purchase 10 Embraer 190’s from US Airways as that airline tries to unload about 25 of the 99-seat regional jets.

Midwest Airlines continues to reduce in scope - now eliminating all 717

Midwest Airlines announced that on November 9 it will cease operating the carriers main fleet type – the Boeing 717.  The new owners of Midwest, Republic Airlines, will replace all Boeing 717 flights with either regional jets or shared Airbus jets from their new partner, Frontier Airlines.

Frontier Airlines, still in Chapter 11 bankruptcy until October, continues to defy critics and Southwest Airlines, by posting admirable financial results.  As a result of being in bankruptcy, Frontier must report numbers on a monthly basis as opposed to the usual quarterly reports.

Midwest and Frontier swap aircraft for efficiencies

Starting this November five of Frontier Airlines Airbus A319 jets will be moved to fly out of Milwaukee on behalf of Midwest Airlines – their new partner airline.  At the same time, five of Midwest Airlines Embraer 190 regional jets will move to Denver, Frontier’s hub, to replace the Airbus jets and operate on select routes.
