Mesa Airlines files for Ch. 11 Bankruptcy

Can you say KARMA?  The long awaited bankruptcy of Mesa Airlines appears to be here as Jonathan Ornstein’s airline has been forced into Chapter 11.  The filing this morning is reported to allow Mesa the ability to restructure debts as well as shed unused aircraft without financial obligations.

Air Canada announces Calgary to Tokyo Narita service in 2010

Air Canada has announced new flight service connecting Western Canadian city Calgary, Alberta and Tokyo Narita Airport in Japan.

United Airlines has let an agreement for regional flying with Mesa to expire resulting in yet another blow to the beleagured regional airline.  United Airlines will no longer utilize 26 CRJ-200 50-passenger regional jets operated by Mesa Airlines for their connection service by April 2010.

United today retired it

Today United Airlines flew the last of its Boeing 737’s into retirement.  In the last year, United Airlines has grounded and moth-balled all 94 of their Boeing 737’s – once a staple of their fleet.  The aircraft will be stripped down at a San Francisco maintenance hangar and then shipped for storage to the desert.

The third quarter had few surprises with the smaller, low-cost centric airlines posting profits, and the bigger guys posting losses.  Some of the losses were smaller than expected, and some were rather large and foreboding.
